This is a showcase of quick design exercises where I take a local shop or restaurant I've visited and redo the main page on their website if I think it needs a better visual solution. These small projects are meant to be fun, engaging and allow me to explore creative solutions that are faithful to what the brand originally had,  but improving upon the sites' navigation, usability, layout & organization, or accessibility. I try to limit each to only a few hours and aim to nail down a strong visual theme for the look and feel of the overall page.
Pickles & Olives Bistro
A local bistro located in Port Perry, Ontario. I've been visiting for many years and they have some of my favourite pizzas as well as fantastic daily specials. The main issue with the website is the lack of accessibility with the choice of text colour and sizing. There is also a lack of secondary navigation with the long menu, leading to an excessive amount of scrolling and hard to find items. You can check out their current website here or below.
I aimed for a simpler page where the elegant light on dark theme is still preserved. The main changes were the time scrolling being reduced significantly using an improved nav, more vibrant colours with A11Y approved contrast and lastly stronger restaurant identity with bold imagery. You can also view the figma mocks in full for mobile and desktop.
